Your Expansion Experience travel package includes your five day and six night stay in a spacious shared suite. Each suite features two private bedrooms – one for each attendee – as well as a living room, bathroom, kitchenette, and private terrace. Daily breakfast at the hotel restaurant, SUGAR&SALT, is also included with your accommodations.

ARRIVAL DAY – SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2024

All participants are expected to arrive by 5 pm CST. 

Once you arrive at the Oaxaca International Airport*, you’ll be transported to our accommodations at Marialicia Suites Boutique Hotel in Oaxaca de Juárez. 

Your Expansion Experience officially begins with a delicious Welcome Dinner where we’ll break bread together and celebrate the beginning of a life-and-business-changing retreat.

*Each participant is responsible for arranging their flights – or alternative travel arrangements – to and from Oaxaca International Airport.*

DAY 1 – MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2024

This Expansion Excursion is offered in partnership with En Via Tours, a local responsible tourism and microfinance company that supports Oaxacan communities by providing business education and microloans to local women.

Our first Expansion Excursion takes us to the communities of San Miguel del Valle and Teotitlán del Valle – a small village world-renowned for the impeccable craftsmanship of their woven goods. In this region, where weaving traditions date back to ancient times, local female entrepreneurs and artisans will share their craft and expertise, including embroidery, textile weaving, and a natural dye workshop where you’ll experiment with traditional techniques. A delicious lunch at an En Vía entrepreneur’s business or home will provide an authentic taste of Oaxacan cuisine.

DAY 2 – TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2024

This Expansion Excursion is offered in partnership with Nomad Cook, a local, self-managed and community-oriented project that aims to distribute profits among the community.

Enjoy an exclusive Oaxacan culinary experience from market to meal. Explore local ingredients and the neighborhood market to collect all the ingredients for traditional, from-scratch recipes. Learn about the social, cultural, and historical context of the dishes, their origins, and the food systems of Oaxaca, Mexico, and the world throughout history.

DAY 3 – WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2024

Discover the Zapotec pyramids and excavated ruins of Monte Alban, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learn all about the rich history of Oaxaca Valley. Visit the San Bartolo Coyotepec Church and the Cuilapam Convent in Cuilapam de Guerrero, admire the mystical alebrijes (woodcarvings) of San Antonio Arrazola, and meet resident artisans in San Bartolo Coyotepec, a community known for their beautiful black pottery.

DAY 4 – THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2024

This Expansion Excursion is offered in partnership with En Via Tours, a local responsible tourism and microfinance company that supports Oaxacan communities by providing business education and microloans to local women.

Our second En Via Expansion Excursion takes us to San Marcos Tlapazola. In this Indigenous Zapotec village, women have been making traditional cookware out of the red clay of the surrounding mountains for twenty generations. Learn about the role pottery plays in Zapotec culture and traditions and experience an Indigenous artist-led red clay pottery demonstration and workshop. 

Before returning to our accommodations, we’ll travel to Teotitlán del Valle to enjoy another delicious lunch and an authentic taste of Oaxacan cuisine at an En Vía entrepreneur’s business or home.

DAY 5 – FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2024

Oaxaca is known as the birthplace of mezcal, a traditional Mexican spirit made from the native agave plant. We’ll spend the day touring family owned and operated mezcal production facilities to learn about the palenqueros, their cultures, and how they make mezcal  — not for tourists — but for each other, for the people in their villages. Explore the distinctive flavors and techniques behind Oaxaca’s signature spirit.

Our final Expansion Excursion will conclude with our Farewell Dinner.

DEPARTURE DAY – SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2024

Enjoy one last breakfast and farewell before checking out. Transportation to the Oaxaca International Airport is included for all Expansion Experience participants.

I joined Dana with the aim of thinking about my business differently, most specifically the business model, how I engaged with clients and partners, and revenue potential. I wanted to be challenged, but I did not know how to frame it, what the outcome looked like or how I would even begin the dialogue.  


My experience with Dana proved to be helpful in all three of those areas. Through in depth conversation, checking assumptions, and some testy homework assignments, I dug into ways of working differently and establishing thresholds of engagement with clients and partners. FAQ

What is the cost of the retreat?

The total investment for your Expansion Experience is $4,500 USD when paid in a single payment at the time of application acceptance. 

An initial deposit of $500 is required when you submit your application. This fee will be fully refunded if your application is not successful or applied against the total cost if your application is accepted for Expansion Experience: Oaxaca.

What does my investment cover?

Your $4,500 Expansion Experience investment includes: 

Your transport between Oaxaca International Airport and our accommodations on the day of arrival and departure, hotel accommodations for five days and six nights, 2 dinners, 3 lunches, and 5 breakfasts, daily coaching sessions, and all excursion fees. 

Please Note: Participants are personally responsible for scheduling and covering the cost of their flights or alternate travel arrangements to Oaxaca International Airport.

Can I bring my significant other?

You can. We seek to keep the pricing reflective of a low barrier to entry. Significant others will be able to share a room with you, but pay a separate cost for excursions, dinners, etc. This Significant Other registration fee is payable and due upon registration. The Significant Other rate is $3,000.

What is your refund policy?

After November 15, 2023 50% of your total trip price is refundable, less your $500 deposit.
After January 1, 2024 The trip is non-refundable.

 

Also, we strongly recommend travel insurance which will cover the majority of the cost of your cancellation, should something arise unexpectedly. (Email us at dana@danacorey.com for recommendations.)

Can I come for part of the retreat?

Sorry, no! The Expansion Experience is designed very strategically and coming/going outside of the set dates of the retreat is disruptive to the other members. Out of respect to your OWN expansion opportunity and the experiences of others, arrive & depart on the dates listed.

What are the room accommodations like?

Our boutique accommodations at Marialicia Suites offer spacious, shared suites for all participants. Each suite includes 2 private bedrooms, a shared living room, washroom, kitchenette, and terrace. Every participant will have a private bedroom in a shared suite. 

If you bring a partner, they will share your bedroom with you and you will both share a suite with another participant (and possibly their partner).
